The founder of Riverford Organic Vegetables has stated the company is currently in talks to open a series of small eateries offering seasonal dishes, it has been reported, with the suggestion of restaurant work opportunities should the plans go ahead.
Guy Watson told the Western Morning News his vision for the firm is part of the Riverford-goes-to-town project which is all about raising awareness of the benefits of fresh and locally-sourced food.
He has said the "neighbourhood restaurants" would be community-focused with local jobs key and providing support for the surrounding area.
The menus would be limited but seasonal, where people could "go and eat reasonably affordably and see the connection with the food and the kitchen", Mr Watson told the publication.
One rule adhered to by the firm is food going from the field to the plate in 24 hours.
In related news, the Telegraph recently reported people should grown their own fruit and vegetables as supermarket products get more expensive, based on advice from Tim Lang, professor of food policy at City University.
