Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley has had its launch in Knightsbridge, it has been reported.

The restaurant, specialising in French cuisine, has opened on the site of the celebrity chef's previous eatery Petrus, which was recently named top in the Harden's London Restaurants guide for 2009.

Previously a sous chef for Gordon Ramsay, when he was head chef at the Aubergine in 1993, Marcus went on to open Petrus at the Berkeley, initially on behalf of Gordon Ramsay Holdings.

Peter Harden, co-editor of the restaurant guide, said: "Marcus Wareing is emerging from Ramsay's shadow as the proprietor of what is now clearly the best restaurant in London and he and his team should be congratulated."

The Maybourne Hotel Group, which oversees The Berkeley, as well as Claridge's and The Connaught, was in 2007 named one of the 100 Best Workplaces in Europe, which may be of interest to those seeking hospitality jobs with the organisation.
