Restaurant appeal successful

A restaurant has been given the green light in Borehamwood, after a previous plan was rejected.
Local councillors have approved the new eatery, to be on 49, Shenley Road, in a derelict shop, reports the Borehamwood and Elstree Times.
It was previously rejected amid fears it would cause an over-concentration of restaurants on the high street, but an appeal from owner Greogry Shiue was successful.
John Felgate from the government's planning inspectorate says after assessing the area the plans were not deemed to affect the vitality or viability of the high street.
"I accept that the number and range of retail uses may have changed in recent years, but in my view this merely reflects well-established national trends," he adds.
Mr Felgate states that the new venture, which may create restaurant manager and chef jobs, will increase competition in the area, but says this is not a planning concern, the newspaper reports.
It is the second restaurant to be approved in the area recently, after a local councillor, Hannah David, was granted permission to open an eatery and hot-food takeaway, the source reports.
