One Nottingham-based restaurateur hopes his plan to build a new eatery in a former public toilet block will encourage others to invest in developments and create more local jobs.

Speaking to This is Nottingham, Umar Jaspal stated that developments such as his are especially important in the current economic climate.

"The idea is to send a message to the business community that everyone benefited during the good days but now we need to invest back into the community and create jobs," he said.

"If everyone holds back on investments because of the credit crunch it will lead to more unemployment."

Construction of Mr Jaspal's restaurant will start this summer, with completion anticipated the following year.

A cafe called the Eat Inn is also opening at the site during the first phase of development and will create up to 15 hospitality jobs.

Speaking to the BBC about the unusual location of his eatery, Mr Jaspal previously said that he loves the site as it has "character".
