Culinary expert Prue Leith is in Dartmouth today (March 31st) to formally open a new restaurant aimed specifically at providing hospitality jobs to homeless and unemployed people.

The eatery is part of a £2 million scheme organised by London-base charity Training for Life and will aim to give the long-term unemployed the skills necessary for all aspects of restaurant work.

Recruits will work alongside experienced chefs and professional front-of-house teams at the Dartmouth Apprentice restaurant.

All profits will go straight back into the charity.
Speaking to the Herald Express, a Training for Life spokesman explained: "We work with apprentices teaching them skills in the hospitality industry.

"They work alongside a professional team to gain real experience in the working environment."

Dartmouth's Apprentice eatery is the second to be opened by the charity, with a restaurant in Hoxton being established in 2004.

Since opening, it has trained over 150 people, 70 per cent of whom have gone on to restaurant jobs.

It has also garnered some rave reviews and awards, including a Michelin recommendation.
