A hospitality skills body has launched a new Smiles of Britain campaign to ensure that staff in restaurant and hotel jobs are giving the best possible customer service.

As part of the scheme from the National Skills Academy for Hospitality, the public will be encouraged to look out for the warmest and most welcoming smiles and send pictures of them to the campaign's website.

There will be weekly prizes for the best pictures and at the end of the summer those with the 20 best smiles will be invited to a photo shoot in London to choose Britain's Smile Ambassador.

Commenting on the scheme, Jo Causon, chief executive of the Institute of Customer Service, who launched the campaign, told Caterer and Hotelkeeper: "Providing great service brings in more than just extra revenue.

"It's about making people feel good to be here and creating positive, lasting reputations about service that make them want to come back."

Last week, the Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year regional finalists were announced, recognising excellence and good service in eateries around the nation.

The regional winners include Entropy in Leicester, Mourne Seafood in Belfast and Ronnies in Thornbury.
