Young people working in chef jobs and other restaurant-based roles are being encouraged to enter the running for a prestigious industry award.
Kitchen and waiting-on staff from around the UK are invited to forward themselves for the Restaurant Association's annual Young Chef Young Waiter competition.
The British Hospitality Association (BHA) describes the Von Essen hotels-sponsored competition as the "an essential way for the rising stars of our industry to expand their learning and experience, and enhance both their own and their establishments' reputation."
Winning the award which has been presented for the last 25 years is considered to be the premier accolade for young workers employed in chef jobs, the BHA states.
Four chefs and four waiters selected to go through to the national final from each region receive £2,000 and are invited to attend a three-day culinary course sponsored by S.Pellegrino at the University of Alma, in Parma, Italy.
Last week, Caterer.com reported that restaurant work is increasingly becoming available in the UK, leading to further hospitality and catering recruitment.
