Cruising makes trips to the eurozone possible as passengers pay for necessities in sterling, the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) has suggested.
Commenting after cruise ship jobs provider All Leisure Group reported having sold 83 per cent of its summer capacity, PSA spokesperson Penny Guy said the strength of the euro against the pound had restricted other holidaying opportunities on the continent.
However, Ms Guy went on to say that traditional cruise destinations like the Mediterranean and the Caribbean were still popular due to the value for money provided by sterling transactions.
She added: "Northern Europe and the Baltic are proving particularly popular as well. There's a lot of culture in those areas and beautiful scenic views so they're drawing customers."
Back in May, the PSA reported an 18 per cent increase of cruise bed nights booked by UK passengers who choose to cruise for longer in 2008.
It said four out of every ten cruises booked now starts in a UK port potentially good news for hospitality professionals seeking cruise ship jobs.
