The Little Chef restaurant in York is set to reopen today, following a revamp initiated by celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal.

With takings having doubled at a Popham outlet already revamped by the Michelin-starred restaurateur, the Fat Duck's owner has been charged with giving a new lease of life to twelve more of the company's eateries.

One of the sites to have benefitted is the Little Chef on the A64 eastbound, near Tadcaster, which has enjoyed a £1 million refurbishment.

The project, which is being filmed for the Channel 4 show, Big Chef Takes on Little Chef, is geared at saving chef jobs and other restaurant work at the national chain.

As well as freshening up the menu, Blumenthal has implemented a number of other changes such as conducting internal decorations and playing music in the toilets in a bid to bring custom back to the roadside chain.

Last month, Blumenthal announced plans to create hospitality jobs in the capital by opening his first London restaurant in Knightsbridge's five-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
