Blumenthal's Little Chef makes Good Food Guide

Little Chef has made it into the Good Food Guide for the first time, thanks to the efforts of Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal.

The restaurant, situated at motorway services in Popham, near Basingstoke, earned a score of two out of ten, making it comparable to a good quality gastropub.

Those working as a chef in the restaurant can take pride in the result as this marks the first time a motorway service station has ever made the guide.

Elizabeth Carter, editor of the Good Food Guide, said: "The minute I walked in I knew it belonged in the Guide.

"It was so welcoming, vibrant and had a real buzz. I'm confident other diners will think so too."

Blumenthal, whose Fat Duck restaurant in Bray was recently named the best place to eat in the UK by the Guide, overhauled the menu at the Little Chef as part of a TV programme for Channel 4 last year.

A self-taught chef, he opened the Fat Duck in 1995 and by January 2004 he had already gained the maximum of three Michelin stars.
