An Italian restaurant in Leeds has become the first in the city to be awarded an AA Rosette.

The family restaurant, Casa Mia Grande, on Harrogate Road in Chapel Allerton, was given the award thanks to the quality of its food along with good service from the hospitality staff and its traditional surroundings.

Owner Francesco Mazzella said: "It is an honour for Casa Mia Grande to have been awarded an AA rosette. We pride ourselves on the quality of the food we serve and all our dishes are freshly prepared every day."

Casa Mia started out in 1998 with Casa Mia Coffee Shop, also in Chapel Allerton, and includes Casa Mia Millennium on Millennium Square. The group now employs more than 180 people in hospitality jobs.

The restaurant has won a number of other awards including Best Italian Restaurant and Best Family Restaurant at the Leeds Restaurant Association Awards.

Twenty-five restaurant jobs were created in Leeds earlier this year after the opening of Ego - a Mediterranean restaurant in the city centre, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
