Chef tipped to be next Gordon Ramsay

A Buckinghamshire chef was surprised to hear that he has been tipped as a contender to be the next big thing in celebrity cookery.

Adam Simmonds - head chef at The Oak Room at Danesfield House hotel in Marlow - has been listed as one of ten contenders to challenge the current crop of TV chefs by The Good Food Guide.

He first heard the news when the BBC rang him up for an interview and called it "a great honour" to be listed alongside other top chefs.

The 38-year-old trained under Raymond Blanc and moved to The Oak Room three years ago after his previous restaurant near Aberystwyth received a Michelin star.

But his top quality cooking isn't the only thing Simmonds has in common with Gordon Ramsay.

He said: "I can lose my rag from time to time but that's the nature of the job - you need to be hard on people sometimes and the boys in the kitchen all know that."

Next month the restaurant will change its name to Adam Simmonds at Danefield House to help build the exposure of both the chef and the restaurant.

More of the country's top chefs will be rewarded at the Hi-Life Dining Awards 2010 in January.
