The new government proposals to limit food portion sizes at restaurants, hotels and supermarkets are 'nonsense' and will not be a workable solution, according to some experts.

David Maguire, chief executive of the Glasgow Restaurateurs' Association, and the Scottish Food and Drink Federation, both consider the move to be a poor one that will not improve the country's obesity problem.

Mr Maguire told the Herald: "We regard this proposal as impractical, unenforceable nonsense which gives no credit to an individual's ability to make an informed choice about what they eat or where they choose to dine out."

A spokesperson from Scottish Food and Drink Federation added that the idea is not a practical one and said that consumers should be educated on food consumption instead.
