Those in restaurant work could be boosted by the establishment of the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA), which will seek to assist eateries which want to improve their sustainable performance.

"There are a wide range of pressures for restaurants to be more sustainable and we aim to show that it doesn't have to be complicated or expensive," SRA managing director Simon Heppner commented.

He added that restaurants can make positive changes for the environment as well as society.

A number of big names from the industry have been responsible for the formation of the organisation, including Giles Gibbons, chief executive officer and founder of Good Business, and Mark Sainsbury, founder of Moro and The Zetter Hotel.

Henry Dimbleby, the founder of Leon, is also on board.

A number of top restaurants from the UK have also taken part in the establishment of the SRA, such as Carluccio's and Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons.
