Restaurant jobs 'are not for the faint hearted'

Those looking for restaurant jobs should be prepared to face up to some harsh realities if they want to succeed, according to an expert, who said that owners need to treat them like factories rather than theatres.
The Sunday Times restaurant critic AA Gill stated that some people in the business are delusional, employing chefs who do not taste their own food and do not understand what it is like to be a customer.
He added that after running his own restaurant for almost 15 years he still cannot tell people exactly how to run a successful establishment.
"It is an elusive and capricious alchemy. The one way that restaurants are like theatre is that nobody knows what's going to be a hit and nobody believes the critic," he wrote in the newspaper.
One company which has managed to make a success of things is the Restaurant Group, which owns Garfunkel's and Chiquitos, as it reported pre-tax profits of £50 million.
