Two new eateries in Peterborough could give restaurant recruitment in Cambridgeshire a boost if planning permission is granted by the local city council.

A planning permission application was submitted by fast-food giant KFC and another unnamed restaurant last week, reports the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

Both submissions came from Sladen Estates, the company which helped bring Frankie and Benny's and Chiquito to the town.

If the council approves the plan, the drive-through KFC restaurant would be positioned off the London road roundabout opposite McDonald's and Premier Inn.

A spokeswoman for KFC said: "A new restaurant would create around 40 jobs in the community and we hope to have some good news for our fans in the area soon."

Who will be behind the second restaurant is not clear, but the firm which owns Sladen Estates' previous ventures in Peterborough has recently announced plans to open a further 25 to 30 establishments in the UK in the coming year.

The Restaurant Group revealed a 7.25 per cent growth in turnover as it prepares to generate 600 jobs nationwide.
