McDonald's plans Hampshire expansion

Fast food service jobs could be created in Hampshire if restaurant giant McDonald's plans for expansion go ahead in the coming months.
The multinational company is hoping to generate over 180 jobs through hiring new staff for its existing outlets and opening a drive-through branch in Totton, as it goes on to create 2,500 UK positions, reports the Southern Daily Echo.
It is expected the new restaurant will be developed on a site that has stood empty since the Red Lion pub on Commercial Road burned down in 2010.
The application from McDonald's argued the scheme can provide a welcome boost to the region's economy at a time when unemployment is on the rise.
"Any jobs and investment locally would make a positive contribution to the social and economic value of the area," the planning application continued.
Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg recently called the announcement that the fast food giant would attempt to generate 2,500 jobs across the country "fantastic news" for the employment market.
