Restaurant recruitment in Shrewsbury could be given a boost through plans to develop a new shopping facility in the town, creating ten new restaurants in the process.

UK Commercial Property Trust (UKCPT) has submitted a planning application to Shropshire Council, proposing the integration of three existing shopping centres into one megamall with a department store and 50 new shops in a newly-built 225,000 sq ft extension.

Pride Hill, Darwin and Riverside shopping centres would be integrated into one development, called New Riverside.

The £150 million development will see ten restaurants in the new section of the shopping centre, creating jobs in the area.

Christopher Hill, chairman of UKCPT, said the project had the potential to be "a significant project for UKCPT and a transformational scheme for the town".

If the council gives it the green light the redevelopment could be finished by 2016, assuming tenants are found for the various spaces available.

The three centres already contain a number of cafes and restaurants, including Italian-style venues Cafe Milano and Cafe Giorgia.
